I tried Brandless & this is what happened. Check out my honest review of this new company, and see if ordering their groceries online is really cheaper!
All product photos in this post, including the photo above, are from Brandless.com.
Over the last couple years, there have been tons of new online food companies popping up. Some of them send you ingredients & recipes to make dinner yourself. Others allow you to order prepared meals. But what I’m most interested in are those that allow me to grocery shop from the comfort of my couch.
The thing is, I’ve yet to find a grocery delivery that offers organic food options at a realistic price. Until now.
Brandless just launched their online store last month (July 2017). And to tell you the truth, the first thing that got my attention was that everything is only $3.
I’ve seen plenty of companies market their organic products online. But organic goods for only $3? Sign me up.
The cost seemed super low, but I was still pretty skeptical. So I checked out the website and took some time to read about their mission. Turns out, the entrepreneurs over at Brandless are a lot like you and me. They are sick of paying ridiculous prices for a label. They wanted better products, in a convenient way, without the extra cost.
Hence the name, “Brandless”. No jacked up prices associated with buying popular brands. No memberships. Everything is non-GMO, and most of it is organic too. They also have items that are fair-trade, dairy-free, and gluten-free.
But sometimes you try something new and end up being really disappointed. So I decided I would order a handful of items, give them a try, and let you guys know exactly what I think about them.
This is my honest review of what Brandless has to offer, and why it may just be the very first company to make online grocery shopping truly affordable.
Y’ALL. Let me just start by saying that I am not a huge cold brew fan. Iced coffee and I have a wonderful relationship. But every other cold brew I’ve tried tastes watery and way too light. Not this one! This Dark Roast Cold Brew Coffee Bag will definitely be on my future shopping lists. Its strong and bold and I LOVED it. Bonus: Its also organic and fair-trade. Swoon.
Ok, I know this isn’t the most exciting thing to most people. But I really needed a new bread knife. And if you love to cook, you know how important it is to have nice kitchen tools.
It will obviously take some time to see how this guy holds up. But so far, its great and its stainless steel!
SOUR GUMMY WORMS
Sour gummy worms are by far my favorite candy. They are a dangerous thing to have in my life. Never have I ever been able to find ones that are made without high fructose corn syrup.
Just imagine my joy when I saw these babies on the Brandless website! My favorite guilty pleasure, without all the guilt. Keep in mind, these are a healthier version of my childhood favorite. So they aren’t going to taste like the jaw-clenching originals. But I think they were pretty bomb! The flavors are tangerine, lemon, and grape. And they get their color and some of their flavor from vegetable extracts. I just love that.
These were so. freaking. good. My husband ate the whole bag and I got a total of 3 of them. And he’s really picky about stuff like this, so that should tell you something.
I plan to order a few bags of these for the upcoming holiday season so I can make them into a pie crust. Toasted Coconut Cookie Thin pie crust. A little over the top? Maybe. But you know you want that recipe!
I told you guys this was a honest review, and I meant it. I was not a big fan of their tortilla chips. I prefer a thin, salty, restaurant-style chip. These were a little thick for my liking, but they did hold up really well for dip. I personally would pair these chips with something like Buffalo Chicken Dip, since it calls for a heartier vessel. But this was the only product that I didn’t absolutely love. And to me, that’s good numbers!
Side note: the tortilla chips are actually 2 for $3!
Jalapeno Cheddar Quinoa Puffs. When I spotted these guys and saw that the are dairy-free, I was SO HAPPY. I’ve been laying off dairy while breastfeeding, since we think Leon has an allergy. And these satisfied a serious craving for something yummy.
Again, this is a healthier version of a favorite snack. So the texture is a little different from a traditional cheese puff. But its a really good texture in my opinion! You get a little kick of jalapeño, and a light sweetness that tastes like salsa. I got addicted to these like REAL fast.
CHOCOLATE CREME COOKIES
These taste like Oreos, for reals! But they’re organic, so I feel a little less guilty about stacking them in a cup of coconut milk and eating them with a spoon. Join me. You know you want to.
This is a good solid product. I’ve been searching for organic graham crackers to make some S’more’s desserts and pie crusts for the holiday season. They are exactly like any other graham cracker in my opinion and you can’t beat that $3 price tag.
So the treats are bomb and the price looks great. But if you’re like me, you’re wondering if everything is really cheaper than what you usually buy at the store.
Don’t worry friends, you know I got you!
I compared the prices to what I would normally buy in the store. I typically shop at Aldi and Publix, and occasionally Whole Foods if there’s something extra special that I can’t find elsewhere. So these comparison prices are from a variety of stores. You’ll also notice comparison pricing for a few additional things that I didn’t review above. Those are products that are pretty straight-forward that I didn’t think warranted a specific review.
Here ya go!
On the rare occasion, you can see that the Brandless item was slightly more expensive per ounce than what I usually buy. But a majority of the time, the Brandless products are significantly less expensive. And they’re delivered to your door. For a few of the items, like those yummy Quinoa Cheese Puffs, there wasn’t even a product like it in stores. Most of the items I ordered were also much better quality than what I could find at the grocery store. And that was after shopping at 3 different places!
HOW DOES BRANDLESS MEASURE UP?
In the end, I saved a decent amount of money by shopping with Brandless. And I got to do it without getting off my couch. #MOMLIFE
Even if you consider shipping, ordering with Brandless is more than worth it. If you spend over $72 on their website, your shipping is FREE. But if you spend a little less than that, you can use code ‘hello3’ to get $3 shipping on your first order!
That means that even with paying the standard $9 shipping, my order for all these products would have been only $43.50. Thats compared to the $53.59 I would have spent at the traditional grocery store. And the grocery store prices don’t include taxes, gas money, or the time spent shopping!
And the best part is, they have been adding new products to the Brandless website like crazy. I’ll happily support a company who is doing things right and helping me to save money in the process.
Keep up the good work, Brandless!
